We are reaching out today with a couple updates:
- Regional Hearing in El Dorado County on May 11th
- Rescheduling the May 2024 Quarterly Meeting in the Eastern Sierra Region to August 2024
Please join the Council for an in-person Regional Hearing THIS SATURDAY, May 11th from 3:30pm – 5:30pm at The Apex at Red Hawk Casino & Resort (1 Red Hawk Pkwy, Placerville, CA 95667). Garage and valet parking is available. We are grateful to be hosted by the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians for the event. Registration is not required to attend but please register here for updates. As a reminder, Reginal Hearings are an opportunity for tribes to provide testimony on record to the Council or can be an opportunity for California Native Americans to provide testimony on specific issues that may be unique to the region.
Prior to the Regional Hearing on May 11th, the California Commission on the State of Hate and Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians will be holding a community forum at the Apex at Red Hawk Casino + Resort to discuss California Indigenous Communities and the Struggle Against Hate from 1:30pm – 3:30pm. The Commission on the State of Hate was established to strengthen California’s efforts to stop hate and promote mutual respect among California’s diverse population. The Commission is charged with researching and publishing data on hate activity, hosting community forums, and providing resources and guidance on how to reduce and respond to hate activity. The 2024 tentative in-person CTHC convening dates have been updated, please see the attached flyer. We have decided to reschedule the May 2024 in-person subcommittee meeting & Quarterly Meeting in the Eastern Sierra Region. We try our best to not reschedule dates, but we also want to ensure that we are holding meetings during times that allow for maximum tribal participation. The Eastern Sierra Region Quarterly Meeting will now take place in August. This means that we will likely have two in-person subcommittee & Quarterly Meetings in August (Eastern Sierra and Santa Barbara regions). The new Eastern Sierra Quarterly Meeting dates are below:
- August 1, 2024 – all-subcommittee meeting (afternoon)
- August 2, 2024 – Day 1 of the Quarterly Meeting
- August 3, 2024 – Day 2 of the Quarterly Meeting
